A Sunday Newsletter: How, on a Saturday Afternoon, I Witnessed Pure Joy

And I breathed a sigh of relief.

The fears, worries, or questions about the future vanished to leave space for wonder and happiness.

You do worry when your children choose the unconventional way. You dream of the brightest future for them, deep down hoping that they will follow a journey that leads them to safety and a cushy saving for the dreary days.

Yet, deep down, you know that the only way for anyone to find true happiness is to embrace their passions, their dreams, and you ache a little bit when they choose the least-travelled, bumpier, scarier path.

Yesterday I watched him take the stage, and he belonged. And the only thing bigger than my pride was the joy of seeing him do his thing.

He was where he is meant to be. His smile was the biggest and truest I have ever witnessed on him. A serene, peaceful, joyful smile. No tension, no fakeness.

The same child who suffered terrible stage fright and would hide under a bench just so that we forgot he wasn’t on a stage amongst his classmates. The little kid who still remembered everyone laughing in a huge theatre because he was an explosion of 3-year-old cuteness but hated the attention.

Yesterday he proudly marched onto a stage, with hundreds of eyes from all corners of the room, fixated on them. All screams and cheers. And he owned it.

And I thought, regardless of where he goes in life, as long as he has that, he will be right where he was always meant to be. And that will always be more than enough for me.
